Existing research has shown a relationship between bereavement or loss of a family member and the onset of challenging behaviours and the deterioration of mental health in people with learning disabilities. This study sought to explore the symptoms of complicated grief among people with learning disabilities, and the relationship between complicated grief and bereavement. The findings suggest that it is not enough only to support people when a bereavement occurs, but that it is beneficial to prepare people with learning disabilities in advance of bereavement.
