This article describes elements of the learning process and reflective practice which underpin personal and professional development. Some benefits of professional and personal development include: helping one understand how to achieve your goals; increasing proactivity; assisting in motivation; helping respond to challenges; and making it easier to make decisions. The article briefly touches upon different theories of learning and learning styles, and goes on to discuss the benefits of accessing resources, such as the internet, newspapers, journals, supervisors, and peers. It suggests meetings are essential to develop critical thinking and listening skills.
