The Expert Patients' programme (EPP), launched by the Department of Health in 2001 is one of the first manifestations of the increasing focus on self-directed support. This article looks at some of the findings from the national evaluation to see if it is meeting its aim to increase self-directed support and reduce health service users among people with long-term conditions.
