This briefing provides key findings from the first ever systematic national survey of people's experiences of acute in-patient mental health services. It included people aged 16-64 discharged from hospital in the six months prior to the survey on an acute ward or psychiatric intensive care unit of at least 48 hours. Arrival of the ward, the Mental Health Act, psychiatrists, nursing staff, care and treatment, talking therapy, physical health, medication, ward experiences, keeping in touch, discharge, crisis care and complaints and discrimination were covered.
