This handbook sets out the legal background to Ofsted's social care compliance work and Ofsted's powers. It is used in the regulation of adoption support agencies, children's homes, holiday schemes for disabled children, independent fostering agencies, residential family centres and voluntary adoption agencies. It contains a 'Quick guide', providing an overview of the key elements of the compliance work, including how information about concerns is received and the initial action that is taken in response. Subsequent sections contain more detailed information about each of Ofsted's compliance powers and how decisions are made. Written for use by internal Ofsted staff, the handbook may also help providers, managers and interested parties to understand Ofsted's compliance processes. (Edited publisher abstract)
