This is the final document adopted at the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) and the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) General Assemblies in 2020. The updated Global Standards for Social Work Education and Training is the product of an extensive global consultation that lasted for more than 18 months and included a wide range of social work academics, practitioners and experts by experience across 125 countries, represented by 5 regional associations and engaging with approximately 400 universities and further education organisations. The consultation and publication process was co-ordinated by Professor Vasilios Ioakimidis (IFSW) and Professor Dixon Sookraj (IASSW). (Edited publisher abstract)

This document sets out the standards of education and training which the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) assess education and training programmes against, including the education of social workers in England. Students successfully completing programmes meeting these standards can then apply to the Health and Care Professions Council for registration. These generic standards cover: the level of qualification for entry to the Register; programme admissions; programme management and resources; curriculum; practice placement; and assessment. The post-qualifying (PQ) framework refers to specialist standards and requirements as follows: The revised PQ framework is an overarching framework designed to be flexible enough to embrace all areas of contemporary social work practice. It is based on a combination of: generic requirements that build on the requirements of the degree in social work and are applicable to all types of social work; and specialist requirements associated with particular areas of specialist practice.

The revised National Occupational Standards for newly qualified social workers have now been approved for use by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. These standards will contribute to the new social work honours degree which will replace the Diploma in Social Work in Northern Ireland in 2004. The standards spell out in full the following summary of social work roles: assessment of service users' needs and circumstances (service users may be individuals, families, carers, groups or communities); planning, carrying out, reviewing and evaluating social work practice, including work with other professions; supporting individuals to represent their needs and views; managing risk to service users, and to oneself and colleagues; managing and accounting for one's social work practice; and demonstrating professional competence in social work.

Education and training standards for social work education in England, which set out the requirements Social Work England expect courses to meet. The standards have been developed with education and training providers and will ensure that people qualify ready to become social workers. The standards cover six areas: admissions; learning environment; course governance, management and quality; curriculum and assessment; supporting students; and level of qualification to apply for entry onto the register. The standards came into force on 1 September 2021, also include additional requirements for admissions and higher standards on involving people with lived experience in courses. These standards aim to ensure that social work student has access to practice learning opportunities that are appropriately resourced, planned and managed and that enable them to meet the specified learning outcomes for the degree and achieve the required standard of proficiency in social work practice. The standards in include separate standards for course providers and for practice learning providers. There are 15 standards in total. Each standard includes: a statement describing the level of performance to be achieved in relation to a specific aspect of practice learning; a rationale that explains why the standard is important, and criteria to provide further information of what is expected. A document providing guidance on the qualifying education and training standards for social workers in England, which are the standards against which Social Work England will assess and approve social work education and training courses. The six standard areas cover: admissions, learning environment, course governance, management and quality; curriculum assessment, supporting students, and level of qualification to apply for entry onto the register. The guidance explains the purpose for each standard, provides further explanation and definitions, and makes suggestions on how organisations can show that they meet the standard. The standards apply to all social work qualifying routes, including: undergraduate and post graduate courses, the social work degree apprenticeship, and alternative training routes and courses. Education and training standards for social work education in England, which set out the requirements Social Work England expect courses to meet. The standards have been developed with education and training providers and will ensure that people qualify ready to become social workers. The standards cover seven areas: level of qualification to apply for entry onto the register; admissions; course governance, management and quality; course design and delivery; practice based learning; and assessment. This first set of education and training standards (2019) will be implemented when Social Work England becomes the regulator for social work. These standards mirror the standards that are used by the current regulator, with some minor changes and will allow course providers time to make changes required as a result of the new 2020 standards. The standards are primarily for providers of social work courses and organisations providing practice learning placements for social work courses.
