All types of suicidal behaviour appear to be elevated in people who are HIV positive, but a lack of standardised vocabulary for the range of different types of suicidal behaviour meant that data from the 66 studies included in the review could not be compared. The range of measures of suicidality was also wide and few of the scales used were purpose-specific, or validated for use in HIV positive individuals. No interventions directly aimed at reducing suicidality were identified.
