The value of DALY life: problems with ethics and validity of disability adjusted life years

Disability adjusted life years (DALYs) have been launched by the World Bank and the World Health Organisation as a combined measure of morbidity and mortality. The approach presupposes that the lives of disabled people have less value than the lives of people without disabilities. These assumptions are in contrast with the principles of the WHO. The ongoing revision of the DALY protocol needs to address the associated problems.
