Both government and the disability movement advocate independent living for disabled adults. However, research has shown that young people growing up with disability face problems leaving the family home, and accessing housing, education, employment and income to meet their needs. The study examines what difficulties they faced in transition to adulthood and what helped them achieve this.

Report of a research project which aimed to identify gaps in service provision for parent carers in North and West Wiltshire. Begins with a literature review of existing research in this field. Describes the results of a survey of Wiltshire parent carers, their characteristics and their experiences of services such as special equipment, health services, financial support, special education, social services, respite care, leisure activities, employment and information. Draws conclusions on the access to services of carers and makes recommendations for future practice.

This article investigates the ways in which schools competing within the educational marketplace perceive and respond to the needs of parents of SEN students, and considers the perspectives, experiences and values of these parents relating to school choice. The findings reveal the pressures on senior school managers and the difficulties encountered by parents of SEN students are increasingly marginalised and devalued.
