Focusing on the importance of ensuring that vulnerable and frail adults (particularly older people) living in their own homes, or in other community settings such as care homes, eat well and healthily, the aim of this document is to improve standards of nutrition for people living in the community. It is in two parts. Part 1 contains a pathway showing the framework of advice and support available to people who either care for those living in community settings or whose professional work brings them into contact with people who may have eating difficulties. It includes a commentary with notes for the general public and community organisations, and for health care professionals. Part 2 contains a resource pack with publications, advice leaflets, links to other sources of information, sample risk classifications and care plan templates, designed to help people using the pathway to source information needed to manage situations effectively.

The Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) bill sets out how the vetting and barring scheme will operate in general terms and secondary legislation will be used to provide the details of the scheme and ensure it operates effectively. This discussion paper has been produced in response to the Education Committee’s stage 1 report on the Protection of Vulnerable (Groups) bill. The preference to see draft regulations prior to the amending stage in the Bill would have led to a significant delay in progressing the primary legislation and securing the robust safeguards and protections which will flow from the new vetting and barring scheme. The discussion paper sets out the issues and policy options on the three substantive secondary legislation areas namely, retrospective checking, determination criteria, and fees. Full and comprehensive consultation will follow.

This document provides a background to the 'Heatwave plan for England'. The purpose of the plan is to avoid the adverse health effects of excessive heat by raising public awareness and triggering actions by those in contact with people who are most at risk. This, in turn, helps reduce pressures throughout the health and social care system. The document outlines key health issues associated with heatwaves, explains why long-term planning is essential and gives some examples of medium term and longer term actions which can be taken to mitigate or ameliorate some of the effects of future heatwaves and hot weather.
