Discusses the origins and role of registration and inspection of residential care homes for older people and highlights the shortcomings of the present system. Goes on to look at the prevention of financial exploitation of older people and makes suggestions for improving and maintaining the quality of designated liaison officers and complaints procedures. Finally, stresses that quality is not the only issue, their are also issues of quantity, type and location when looking at residential care.
