Multi-disciplinary outreach teams have become a standard component of psychogeriatric services, developing in response to the complex range of mental, physical and social problems presented by the patient group. Advantages claimed for this approach include more efficient use of staff resources, facilitation of planning and development and better management of caseload. Presents the results of a study which monitored key processes and outcomes in joint health and social services community psychogeriatric teams in Cambridge. Two rural and two urban teams were looked at and comparisons were drawn between the two. Recommendations for the future include the need to establish the validity of keyworker assessments of carer stress.
