Skilled nursing care facilities have traditionally been medically driven, and probably will continue to be so. However, with the increasing concerns for the quality of life as well as quality of care for residents of long-term care facilities, psychosocial and social work methodologies take on increased importance. Discusses the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Programme in the USA and how it can be helpful in this changing and emerging process by recognising and implementing a clearly social work perspective.
