Prevalence studies of dementia amongst minority ethnic groups are difficult to carry out not the least because of transcultural diagnosis. The fact that ethnic groups are less likely to be in touch with statutory services makes it difficult to estimate the scale of the problem. It would seem that difficulties in finding a sample are representative of a hidden problem.
