The SSI set standards for each national inspection and evaluate quality of services against those standards. SSI standards are: statements of quality of services expected; derived from government policy, legislation and regulation (including national objectives and national service frameworks), and current knowledge of research and good practice; concerned with the same domains of the performance assessment framework, i.e. national priorities and strategic, cost and efficiency, effectiveness of service delivery and outcomes, quality of services for users and carers and fair access. SSI standards are specified prior to inspections so that social services departments and agencies understand the basis on which their services are being inspected. They are made widely available, in our published reports and via this web site, so that they can be used as a tool by all local councils to assess their own standards and audit their progress.
Dementia-friendly technology: a charter that helps every person with dementia benefit from technology that meets their needs

The Dementia-friendly technology charter aims to give people with dementia and their carers information on how to access technology and provides guidance to health, housing and social care professionals on how to make technology work for people based on their individual needs. The charter, developed by a diverse working group led by Tunstall Healthcare, has been produced as part of the Dementia Friendly Communities programme. The charter sets out in detail what considerations community and primary care providers need to give to technology and what they need to have in place during the different stages of a person with dementia’s journey, including before diagnosis, after diagnosis, during a crisis and when more complex needs appear. It also illustrates the key components of a good technology service and includes a self-evaluation check list for commissioners and providers. (Edited publisher abstract)

This is the first version of a tool designed to help those responsible for commissioning or delivering services at a local level to compare patterns of treatment at different ages with those in other areas. The tool displays comparative information on treatment rates at different ages, and on the balance between treatment rates for different age groups. The aim is to assist local consideration of how far local practice achieves National Service Framework (NSF) for Older People standard one. The tool is intended to complement and not replace other local action on this standard.

This Service framework for learning disabilities is one of a set of Service Frameworks which sets out standards for health and social care to be used by service users and carers, to help them understand the standard of care they can expect to receive in Northern Ireland. The Service Framework for Learning Disability aims to improve the health and wellbeing of people with a learning disability and their carers and families by promoting social inclusion, reducing inequalities in health and social wellbeing and improving the quality of health and social care services. The Framework sets standards in relation to: Safeguarding and Communication and Involvement in the Planning and Delivery of Services; Children and Young People; Entering Adulthood; Inclusion in Community Life; Meeting General Physical and Mental Health Needs; Meeting Complex Physical and Mental Health Needs; At Home in The Community; Ageing Well; and Palliative and End of Life Care. Each standard is accompanied by a statement on what the standard is intended to achieve. It also sets out the evidence base and rationale for the development of the standard and the performance indicators that will be used to measure that the standard during the three year period 2013 - 2016.
