A review of direct payments was announced by the Government in April 1998. In a response substantially informed by research undertaken by Professor David Brandon and his team at Anglia Polytechnic University, Age Concern calls for extending direct payments to people aged over 65. The research was undertaken in seven local authority areas, comprising three London boroughs, three rural local authorities and an authority well know for providing indirect payments. An edited version of Age Concern's response to the review is provided.
