Offenders over the age of 60 currently form a small percentage of the penal population. With the ageing of the population and changes within the probation service to a justice model, more older offenders will experience later life in prison or on probation. This article reviews the limited literature on older offenders, and reports on interviews conducted with elderly offenders themselves. It discusses practice implications for probation officers working with older offenders.
