This checklist was designed following research commissioned by Communities Scotland, Age Concern Scotland and the Equality Network, which explored the housing and support needs of older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people in Scotland. The checklist is for use by organisations, agencies and groups providing housing and related support services. Use of the checklist is voluntary, but it is best practice for all service providers to ensure equality of access to high quality services. Compliance with this checklist should begin to increase the confidence of older LGBT people in accessing housing and housing related support services. The checklist is structured around six themes: raising awareness and ensuring access to services, consistency of service delivery, listening to service users, confidentiality and sharing information, housing management and providing support.

This research identifies the housing and support needs of older lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people living in Scotland. It provides information about the rights of LGBT people who own or rent a property or who use housing and housing support services, and explains where people can get help if they are not happy with the service they have received. It also covers getting support at home, moving to sheltered housing or a care home, housing related financial issues, homelessness, and dealing with harassment, hate crime or antisocial behaviour. The booklet was produced following research commissioned by Communities Scotland, Age Concern Scotland and the Equality Network and based on in-depth discussions with a large number of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people aged over 45 in Scotland.
