This report presents information on a range of community activity gathered from health and social care (HSC) trusts including contacts with HSC trusts, care packages in effect, meals on wheels services, residential and nursing accommodation and day care registrations. Community care describes the wide range of services and support which enable individuals to live in their own home or in community settings. It is designed to maintain and promote the independence and well-being of disabled and older people, and has as its overriding objective the aim to enable people to live as full a life as possible, in whatever setting best suits their needs. The report shows that between 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2016, 29,935 persons were in contact with HSC Trusts in Northern Ireland, a one per cent decrease on the same period last year and 10 per cent increase since the same period four years ago. 40 per cent of persons in contact were aged 65 and over.
