A study looking into service use by people with mental health problems in contact with the police resulted in the organisation Revolving Doors setting up a link workers scheme. The Revolving Doors Link Workers scheme aims to support and provide practical help at the time of arrest to people suspected of having mental health problems. The authors describe the operation of Elliott House Probation and Bail Hostel in Birmingham. It is the only hostel in the country geared specifically towards the needs of mentally disordered offenders, and the authors argue that, in partnership with the local forensic psychiatric services, it is helping to break new ground in provision for this client group.
