In an effort to bridge the gap between service need and service utilisation, an urban based children's psychiatric outpatient clinic implemented a programme to provide mental health service in inner city schools. This paper presents the findings of the project evaluation. The results indicate that school based mental health services show improvements comparable to the clinic-based services, and have the potential for bridging the gap between need and utilisation by reaching disadvantaged children who may otherwise be unable to access these services.
