Drawing on existing research, this report highlights the voices of looked after children on their experiences through the care system. Chapter 1 provides a summary of the key issues that emerged from a review of the literature on young people’s views of their care experiences, highlighting four primary themes: relationships, respect, rights and responsibility. Chapter 2 explores the literature on the views of looked after children who may have specific issues associated with their particular experiences, for example, being an asylum seeker, having a disability, or being a care leaver, being a parent, living in residential care or in secure settings or experiencing mental health difficulties.
