This study investigated psychiatric symptoms and deviance at the age of 15 years among children involved in bullying at the age of 8 years or at the age of 12 years. Furthermore, the relationships between involvement in bullying at the age of 8 years, concurrent psychiatric deviance, and later psychiatric deviance were studied. Questionnaires filled in by the parents, teachers and children themselves were used to reveal psychiatric symptoms and deviance. Concludes that bullying experiences are connected not only to concurrent psychiatric symptoms but also to future psychiatric symptoms., Furthermore, the probability of being deviant in adolescence is increased if the child has been involved in bullying at elementary school age.

Service providers in Adult Mental Health Services are not always aware of the existence of consumer's children and do not routinely assess the adequacy of their care. A greater effort is being made to provide psycho-education for relatives and friends than ever before, but not for their children. Staff of Victorian Mental Health Services in Australia are mandated either by law or professional ethics to report instances of physical or sexual abuse. How children's exposure to frightening or neglectful behaviour is to be dealt with is less clear. Asks if it is possible to meet routinely with children of clients to monitor their welfare. This article explores some of the questions that were in the author's mind prior to working in a community mental health service.

Presents a survey from 3 states in the USA on factors relevant to developing school-based mental health programmes. Administrators provided ratings to questions grouped in five categories: stressful conditions, internalising behavioural problems, externalising behavioural problems, substance abuse, and barriers to mental health care, and provided open-ended comments on needs of youth and mental health programmes for them. Findings related to barriers to mental health care, and the viability of schools as delivery sites for comprehensive mental health services, are discussed.
