Innovation alive and well

Four examples of innovation in children's social care are briefly reported. The services outlined are: Jamie's Farm, a working farm which offers placement's for vulnerable young people; Hope and Horizon Woodland retreat, which is a tree-house style mental health unit for 13-to 18-year-olds; Crosby Lakeside Centre, a leisure centre that holds activities for disabled people and young people; and Care Afloat, which provides children's homes and schools that include canal boats and a sailing yacht.
Referrals are down but the risk is high

The work of Clare Lodge, a facility for vulnerable girls is briefly described. The secure unit provides a care for many girls who have been sexually exploited, by men or organised gangs. There are worries that the unit will close due to a drop in referrals.
