Examines the predictors of depressive symptomatology among caregivers of persons with chronic mental illness. Data were collected through in-person interviews with family caregivers of adults with chronic mental illness who were served by mental health case management agencies in the USA. The results indicated that insufficiency of overall social support was the most powerful predictor of caregiver depressive symptomatology. Higher levels of client behavioural problems and insufficient support from family members and mental health professionals related to the caregiving role were associated with higher levels of caregiver depressive symptomatology through their associations with caregiver burden. Implications for practice and research are discussed.

Screening tools for cognitive decline still have low accuracy for dementia, mainly in cases of mild dementia. All of them are affected by factors such as age, sex educational level, sensory deficits and several mental disorders. This study validates a Spanish version (S-IQCODE) of the Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (I-QCODE), a dementia screening questionnaire in Spanish population-based samples. The results obtained with the S-IQCODE show that it could possibly be applied in screening for dementia in community-dwelling elderly.
Increased rate of psychosis among African-Caribbeans in Britain is not due to an excess of pregnancy and birth complications
- Authors:
- HUTCHINSON G., et al
- Journal article citation:

- Publisher:

Looks at how it has been suggested that the increased rate of psychotic illness among African-Caribbeans living in Britain is due to an excess of pregnancy and birth complications (PCBs). This article compares the frequency of PBCs in a group of white psychotic patients and a comparable group of patients of African-Caribbean origin. Finds that the increased rate of psychotic illness is not due to an increased prevalence of PCBs.
