The Targeted Mental Health in Schools grant is being made available over a period of three years (2008-2011). This is to support the development of innovative models of therapeutic and holistic mental health support in schools for children and young people, aged 5 to 13, who are at risk of and/or experiencing mental health problems and their families. The programme will begin in April 2008 with funding available to the 25 pathfinder local authorities who, in partnership with their PCTs, will develop the models and processes in 2008-09. This will be followed by a phased national roll-out in years two and three (2009-10, 2010-11

Targeted Mental Health in Schools (TaMHS) is a three-year pathfinder programme aimed at supporting the development of innovative models of therapeutic and holistic mental health support in schools for children and young people aged five to 13 at risk of experiencing mental health problems and their families. From April 2010, TaMHS will be operating in clusters of schools in all local areas. To implement TaMHS, each local authority is working with a partner Primary Care Trust (PCT), a cluster of schools and other partners including the third sector at strategic and operational level. This circular sets out the requirements for the Targeted Mental Health in Schools grant, for 2010-11, for all 152 local authorities in England.
