It is essential that the quality of residential services is monitored, both to identify service deterioration and to improve service quality. Current models of community services have produced fragmentation among service providers, and a separation of purchasers and providers. This article illustrates how these different groups can work together by participating in the auditing of each others services. Outlines an audit carried out in Lewisham for services for people with learning difficulties. Highlights the lessons learned from the process and the findings of the audit so far.
