Identifies considerations for HIV policy in services for people with intellectual disabilities and suggests standards for best practice. Many services struggle with the dilemma of providing quality residential services to people with learning disability who present behaviours which challenge services. This article describes how a service provider in North Yorkshire is approaching this dilemma. A weekly timetable has been introduced which incorporates all the service and service user requirements. This, backed up by training, external professional help and management attention, has led to a decrease in behaviours which challenge, an increase in team members' skills and confidence, and increased service user participation both in the house and in the community.
