'Making it real for young carers' has been coproduced by young carers, who explored the six Making it Real themes in their own words and illustration: Information and advice (having the information needed, when it is needed); Active and supportive communities (keeping friends, family and place); Flexible and integrated support; Workforce (the young carer's support staff); Risk enablement (feeling in control and safe); and Personal Budgets (PBs) and self funding. This document follows these themes and supports them with statements from young carers on what they think needs to be happening, what they should be experiencing, and when an organisation is making good progress towards personalisation. It was produced with Action for Carers Surrey, the Carers Trust and the Children's Society. (Edited publisher abstract)

Making it Real for Carers has been co-produced with carers and their organisations through a series of workshops held in Lewisham, Durham and East Sussex. The issues raised, approaches suggested and words used come directly from carers, and are presented as six themes: information and advice; active and supportive communities; flexible and integrated support; workforce; risk enablement; and personal Budgets and self funding. Each theme is supported by ‘in practice’ statements, which are examples of good practice or service features that show an organisation is making good progress towards personalisation. The needs of carers are emphasised throughout. (Edited publisher abstract)
