This article describes the ongoing process of psychiatric reforms and the current situation of mental health services in Greece. It reports that the de-institutionalization of patients from psychiatric hospitals has almost been achieved. Psychiatric hospital beds have been reduced, psychiatric units in general hospitals have been developed, a substantial number of community mental health services has been established and the standards of care have been improved. New legislation has been introduced and the stigma attached to mental illness is gradually reduced. However, psychiatric units in general hospitals and Community Mental Health Centres have not yet fulfilled their role as principal providers of psychiatric care, while decentralization, sectorization and completion of the network of mental health services are still to be completed.

This document shares six country reports, based on an assessment of criteria, as set out in the Child Guarantee, and the needs of their respective country. This initiative guarantees children in need access to a set of key services to prevent and combat poverty and social exclusion. It focuses in particular on access to free healthcare, early childhood education and care, education, at least one healthy meal each school day, and effective access to healthy nutrition and housing. Member States are expected to submit their National Action Plans in mid-March 2022. These action plans should outline how they will implement this Recommendation up to 2030. To seize this unprecedented opportunity, Eurochild created a Child Guarantee Taskforce, with 9 member organisations who have expertise in advocating towards national governments and are focusing on influencing the implementation of the Child Guarantee in their country. Over the past three months, Taskforce members have exchanged relevant knowledge and good practices, reflected on more effective tactics and strategic communication to better influence the development of the Child Guarantee National Actions Plans. Taskforce Country Reports included in this document are from: Bulgaria; Germany; Greece; Ireland; Italy; and Spain. (Edited publisher abstract)

The aim of this study was to examine the evidence at European and national level of the effect of the economic crisis, and its consequences in terms of austerity measures, on the rights and status of people with disabilities. It focused in particular on the impact on the delivery of social services and income support and allowances aimed at people with disabilities. Evidence was gathered through a review of European reports and statistics and through 6 country reports compiled by national correspondents and based on documentary evidence and interviews with representatives of people with disabilities, service providers, and funders. The countries included in the study were Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and the UK. This report presents a synthesis of the data gathered at European level, together with additional findings extracted from the country studies. It covers the macroeconomic context, the impact of the crisis on social services and on disability related social security benefits, and the impact of the crisis on the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
