The 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15) is recommended for screening older people, but there are no large epidemiological studies using this instrument in the UK. This article describes the age and sex distribution of GDS-15 scores in the largest ever UK sample of people aged 75 and over. The GDS-15 was offered to a representative sample of UK people aged 75 and over. Proportions of people attaining thresholds on the GDS-15 were calculated by age group and sex. The data provides a national picture of the numbers of older people who will score positively for depression in health screens which include the GDS-15.

The present study attempted to examine specific differences in the Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptomatology among abused children with and without concurrent depression. PTSD and depressive symptoms were identified that discriminate between 98 children divided into three groups: (1) abused children with PTSD, (2) nonabused children who meet criteria for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and (3) abused children with both PTSD and MDD. For the sample of abused children examined, the results illuminate differences with respect to PTSD symptom presentation for those children with PTSD who have a concurrent depressive disorder and their nondepressed counterparts. Children with PTSD who have a concurrent depression report greater levels of intrusive PTSD-related symptoms.

This article assess the moderating role of somatization on depression in the perception of fatigue for a healthy adult population. Correlational survey, several fatigue questionnaires, a mental health inventory, somatic complaints and demographic data were collected form a targeted, randomly selected adult sample. Depression levels were positively and significantly related to all aspects of fatigue except fatigue that responds to rest and sleep (ie tiredness). When high levels of depression were coupled with somatization, fatigue complaints were more severe.
