The Safe Network developed this resource, which was produced by the NSPCC, specifically to help facilitators and trainers raise awareness of child protection issues in black and minority ethnic communities. It is designed to help participants share and learn about positive and harmful childcare practices and the ways in which children can be kept safe. It is suitable for use with parents, carers, community groups, staff and volunteers. The resource contains workshops and discussions sessions to raise awareness of children’s safeguarding issues and understanding of the role and responsibilities of the organisations charged with the task of keeping children safe. Module one includes a range of activities that help participants to recall childhood experiences and the way they have affected their opinions on how children are cared for now. Module two features activities designed to raise awareness about core aspects of child abuse in a cultural and legal context. The final module aims to help participants to identify and strengthen practices in the family and community that protect children from harm, and offers guidance on where to find support. The CD contains resources in: English, French, Chinese, Urdu, Bengali and Arabic.
