The author looks at the role of gerontological social workers in assisting families in making decisions about driving and in coping with the consequences of those decisions. The article highlights issues social workers should be aware of, such as the effects of dementia on driving, licensing requirements, recognising the challenges faced by families dealing with a driver with dementia and their own professional responsibilities.
