Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 has been updated by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005. The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) has announced that a draft Code of Practice will revise the existing Code to reflect these changes. The author explores these new developments and looks at: the purpose of the code; changes from the existing code; extended definitions; and reasonable adjustments.

The Disabled Persons Act 1986 was intended to improve the co-ordination of services and assessment of disabled peoples' needs and to ensure that their carers were more involved in decision making, and had information that would help them make genuine choices and exercise their rights. The author says that the Act has failed in its aims.
