For six weeks, from the middle of January until the end of February 1991, Israeli cities were subject to forty Iraqi missile attacks. Heavy damage was suffered by the civilian population. In this undeclared war, professional social workers found themselves manning the front lines. They encountered many new situations and problems that brought them face to face with a variety of ethical problems. At the time many of these social workers felt that they did not have sufficient guidance from the codes of ethics, nor did they have sufficient time to clarify the ethical problems that confronted them. This article focuses on a selected number of ethical dilemmas that these social workers faced. Though these were the experiences of professional social workers in one particular country, the questions raised are believed to be relevant to a much wider group.
