Respondents to the survey felt that dementia was too small a priority for government (89%), that the dementia strategy for England had little impact in their area (66%) and that the quality of dementia care in their area is poor (42%).

Findings from research into social workers' attitudes to, and experience of recording are briefly discussed. The findings are based on extended interviews conducted with 50 qualified social workers from 14 departments, and 460 questionnaires were completed by practitioners in a further 79 departments. The need for increased training, support and guidance are highlighted.
