Understanding, communication, and treatment in the field of psychotherapy depends on being clear about names used. Yet this is an area that can be very difficult. One example is the word "borderline" as a psychiatric diagnosis. It is argued that the very term "borderline" suggests the practitioner cannot declare themselves one way or another. The article attempts to address the issues in relation to the namer and named.
