Looks at feelings this has evoked; for SSDs campaigning against elder abuse there is a view that there is a public myth which encourages the idea that there are no bad carers and they therefore back the powers for them to gain access; and for carers' associations there is a feeling that carers' will not be supported and that the Law Commission will make certain actions by carers illegal.

Implementation 11: Reports on how Sefton, Powys and Westminster SSDs are keeping the public informed about community care. Sefton describes it's approach to informing the public as 'signposting'. They feel that it is important to guide the public to people who will be able to help them further rather than overload users with too much information. It is also felt that working directly with user groups and voluntary organisations is much more effective than paper publicity. Westminster also value working with the voluntary sector as a means of informing the public. As a rural county with a small but widespread population part of Powys' information strategy is to use of existing information points such as GP practices and libraries to help disseminate information.
