This article discusses the health, caregiving, socioeconomic, and service needs of elderly persons who live in Ghana. Brief sociodemographic information on the population is given. Challenges brought about by population ageing are discussed. Barriers to the provision of services to address the needs of the population are examined. Finally, measures are proposed to meet the challenges of providing services to elderly Ghanaians.

The international toxic waste trade and Durning's three tier model of global poverty illustrate how environmental problems exacerbate the harsh living conditions of the poor. This paper explore the link between poverty and environmental problems at local, national and international levels. Policies and illicit scheme that distribute environmental threats inequitably among poor nations and communities are examined. Strategies through which social workers can assess, prevent and ameliorate environmental problems facing the poor are suggested.
