NHS National Knowledge Service

The mission of the National Knowledge Service (NKS) is to collect, organise, and deliver knowledge where and when it is needed throughout the National Health Service (NHS). Established as part of the Government’s response to the Bristol enquiry (Learning from Bristol January 2002), NKS  is developing a strategic approach to the management of the £150M annual NHS expenditure on knowledge and information services, and to obtaining the best value from such investment.  This is achieved via three workstreams: the Best Current Knowledge Service, responsible for the production and procurement of the evidence that clinicians and patients need; the National Library for Health, responsible for the organisation and mobilisation of knowledge to meet the needs of users; and,  the National Decision Support Service. The National Knowledge Service Plan for 2007-2010, available to download from this site, describes the development of the NKS.
