This guidance document, endorsed by the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services in England and Northern Ireland, details good practice for the instruction of Independent Mental Capacity Advocates (IMCAs) at the beginning of Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) processes. The recommendations are based on feedback from an online survey of IMCAs and IMCA provider company managers following the launch of the IMCA support project in August 2009, and individual discussion with IMCAs at network meetings or within individual IMCA provider companies. The document ends with a listing of essential information needed for instruction and an instruction form template.
