Dementia is a disease which affects intellectual, emotional and behavioural changes in the elderly. The disease affects not only the elderly themselves, but also the family members who are involved in caring for them. An understanding of the nature of the stresses experienced by family caregivers and the factors correlated with this stress will enable the policymakers and health and welfare professionals to develop intervention programmes which meet the needs of our older population and the family support system.
