Guidance document providing advice registrants of the Health and Care Professions Council about some of the issues relating to how they handle and share information about service users. The guidance covers: keeping information safe; consent and confidentiality; disclosing information with, and without, consent; disclosing information by law, in the case of requests from service users and safeguarding concerns; disclosing information to regulators; and accountability. The guidance may also be helpful to potential registrants, employers and other people who want to know what is expected of health and care professionals to approach issues of confidentiality.
