A directory of case studies detailing the challenges and successes experienced by the fostering services who took part in a two year programme, part run by The Fostering Network and funded by the Department for Education, to improve the recruitment and retention of foster carers. Each case study outlines the action, objective, the process, challenges and top tips for other services to investigate the potential for implementing similar actions locally. Contact details are provided for each case study. The case studies cover the following areas: Understanding data; Working together; Targeted recruitment; Utilising and retaining the workforce; and Broadening the demographic and range of foster carers. Case studies demonstrate the benefits of: carrying out local needs analysis to identify gaps in provision; providing bespoke training to existing foster carers to meet specific needs; and involving foster carers in all stages of the recruitment process.
