This guide sets out a step-by-step approach to social care audit using the quality improvement cycle, which involves people who use services. It is aimed at frontline leaders and teams who provide care services and has been co-designed with service users and employees. The care audit approach described provides a system for checking how well services meet evidence-based standards, highlights how services might be improved, and ensures that changes are implemented to improve care and outcomes for people who use services. Individual sections cover the different stages of a care audit: planning and preparing; reviewing quality; improving practice; and sustaining improvement. A final section looks at when and how to involve people who use services, their carers and advocates in the audit. It includes case studies to help implement practice and also uses a fictitious ‘case example’ throughout to illustrate different aspects of the audit. It is one of a suite of guides developed to support social care professionals to undertake care audit. (Edited publisher abstract)
