Abstract: |
This procedure document was produced by the All Wales Child Protection Procedures Review Group, who are asked with producing and keeping up to date the All Wales Child Protection Procedures. It provides a definition of what constitutes female genital mutilation, the short and long term consequences for the girl or women's health and indicators to look for in order to assess whether this practice has occurred. It then looks at existing procedures and practice guidance, the law, and the need to share information across agencies. Good practice guidance for health professionals, staff working in social services, police, voluntary sector and staff working in education authorities is also provided. The document should be read in conjunction with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures |
