Abstract: |
The issue of analysis and critical thinking in assessment has been a persistent concern in inquiries into child deaths and Serious Case Reviews. The Change Project ‘Analysis and Critical Thinking in Assessment’ explores the issues around the analysis of often very complex data found in social work assessments, and looks at how critical thinking and reflective practice can be promoted more effectively. This briefing for strategic leads is one of the pilot materials developed as part of this project. It contains a summary of the key messages and practice recommendations about improving analytical systems and processes at a strategic level. It considers: supporting assessment practice; developing an organisational culture of learning; using analytical and critical thinking to support commissioning; and the Anchor principles (a 5-question framework for analytical thinking). The document concludes with providing a number of recommendations for strategic leads. |
