Abstract: |
This book is the result of over five years’ collaboration by leading European researchers on men and adopts a comparative perspective on men and masculinity in Europe. It addresses the questions: What is happening to men, masculinities and gender relations in Europe? How are these changes around gender affecting men? The research focuses on the different situations in fourteen countries across Eastern, Central and Western Europe. In particular it looks at the implications of rapid and substantial social change, the EU and Europeanisation, globalisation and new post-socialist configurations of Europe. Special emphasis is placed on men’s changing relations to home and work, on social exclusion, health and the intersection of national and transnational forces, and on legal, policy and political developments relating to men and masculinities. Media and newspaper representations are also discussed. |
