Abstract:

Detached youth workers go to where young people gather and work with them where ever they happen to be. They aim to make a relationship with young people, and by talking to them can help to find out their needs. This article looks at the difference they can make and their role in the current funding and policy climate. It also presents an overview of the work of Winchester's Street Reach charity which has five teams of detached workers who work with young people affected by joblessness and homelessness.
