Title:

Guidance on joint investigative interviewing of child witnesses in Scotland

Publisher:

Edinburgh: Scotland. Scottish Government, 2011. 77p., bibliog.

Abstract:

The good practice guidance set out in this document is for police officers and social workers who are carrying out joint investigative interviews with children aged under 16 years at commencement of the initial interview. It updates previous interviewing guidance and is intended to be read in conjunction with the National Child Protection Guidance. It aims to make the interview more child- focused and less stressful for children. It covers all joint investigative interview cases regardless of the allegation under investigation and is concerned primarily with formal interviews undertaken for evidential purposes and to assess any necessary action. Among the main changes in the guidance is the introduction of visual recording. The guidance covers planning and conducting the joint investigative interview, additional support needs, complicating factors, and use of and responsibilities for visual recordings.
